There are loads of photo shops in Thamel, but the best ones are away from Thamel on Kantipath (the best is DAS Colour Lab, on Kantipath). Film and camera batteries are generally good (check the date) and cheaper than at home.  Indian-made Fuji film is just as good as the (more expensive) imported variety.  Processing is usually good quality, and cheap, but slide mounting can be very dodgy.  If you’ve got the money, top-of-the-range SLR cameras and lenses are available along New Road for a lot less money than in the UK.  Do I need to tell you to bargain hard..?  Camera batteries are available at about a third of UK price.
